REQUEST FOR BACKBONES
OF RECAPTURED SHARKS
The large number of sharks
currently being recaptured offers
a unique opportunity for fishermen
to assist biologists in age
and growth studies.
IF YOU CATCH A TAGGED SHARK
- Measure the fork length.
- Remove a 6 to 10 inch piece of backbone from over the gills.
- Freeze the backbone.
- Record the tag number and recapture details (species, date, location-latitude and longitude or loran,
fork length, sex, method of capture).
